Cassandra Haavisto
President

 Regional Director - NBS Multifamily Management

Committees:

 Ms. Haavisto joined the NAI-Norris Beggs & Simpson family of companies in late 2009 as Regional Manager and the designated broker for the Seattle division of the multifamily group, NBS Multifamily Management.  With experience as a multi-site, multi-state manager having managed over 13,000 total units for private, government, and institutional clients, Ms. Haavisto's career had included titles such as Regional Director and Director of Training.  It has included valuable time spent with nationally recognized firms such as Alliance Residential and Trammell Crow Residential where she earned 11 sales awards.  She added a smaller regional firm and two diverse prominent family firms Harsch Investment Properties and Lewis Apartment Communities to broaden her real estate exposure.  Through these experiences her knowledge deepened having worked on conventional, Bond, HUD, LIHTC projects.  As a designated problem solver, Ms. Haavisto enjoys the task of turning around troubled assets with a solid foundation of systems and organization impressively impacting the bottom line for her clients.  In addition to time spent with Washington Multi-Family Housing Association, working along the West Coast resulted in Ms Haavisto donating her time to local industry associations such as the Metro Multifamily Housing Association (Portland, OR) and the Apartment Association of the Greater Inland Empire (Southern California) where she was nominated for Regional Manager of the Year. 

 


Gail Duke
Vice President

Managing Director - Madrona Ridge Residential

Committees:

Prior to joining Madrona Ridge Residential in 2010, Ms. Duke spent 21 years with Trammell Crow Residential, eventually serving as COO and President of the West Coast property management division. During her years with Trammell Crow, she was actively involved in all multifamily projects including assisting with site selection, development, program design, lease-ups, and operations. Her experience includes all aspects of real estate property management, asset management, marketing, and sales. Most recently, she was a Senior Vice President with Sares-Regis Group. Additionally, she has served in executive management roles at Riverstone Residential Group (a company formed when Trammell Crow sold their property management division) and Belkorp Holdings, Inc., a Canadian corporation. Ms. Duke attended West Virginia University, where she studied engineering. She holds a Real Estate Broker’s License for the State of Washington.


Phil Nored
Treasurer

President - HNN Associates, LLC

Phil Nored is the managing partner of HNN Associates, LLC, an organization providing direct property management and asset management services to Devco, Inc. HNN Associates specializes in the management of Section 42 tax-credit affordable housing. Previous to his relationship with HNN, Phil Nored was employed at a privately held property management organization in Portland, Oregon for three years. In his capacity as an investment manager, he supervised a large portfolio of properties in four Northwest states. Mr. Nored owned a property management company on the southern Oregon coast and developed fifteen years of experience with residential and commercial property management, including the management of conventional apartment homes, tax-credit financed affordable housing properties, Rural Development Section 515 apartment complexes, HUD rental and cooperative housing, and small office and retail buildings.


Becki Beusch

Owner- Seattle Apartment Finders & Apartment Advantage Staffing

Committees: 

Becki Beusch is President/Owner of both Apartment Finders, an apartment locator service, and Apartment Advantage Staffing Services, a temporary placement agency specific to the apartment industry. With over 20 years of experience in the Northwest rental and relocation markets, Ms. Beusch has a background in sales, design and marketing, and has worked for several of the nation's industry leaders, including the position of Regional Marketing Manager for New Development with Archstone Communities prior to purchasing Apartment Finders in 1998. Education and career development within our industry is a key focus for Ms. Beusch and her companies provide scholarship opportunities for many NAA designated courses. As a founding member of WMFHA, Ms. Beusch is a longtime participant in industry events, appointed as WMFHA Board Member in 2007, while also serving on the Executive Board of the Pacific Northwest Relocation Council.


Joan Carro
Past President

Senior Regional Manager - BRE Properties, INC

Committees:

Joan Carro is a Senior Regional Manager for BRE Properties, Inc. (NYSE:BRE) in the Seattle region. BRE Properties – a real estate investment trust – develops, acquires and manages apartment communities in supply-constrained Western U.S. markets. BRE directly owns and operates 75 apartment communities totaling 22,166 units in California, Arizona and Washington.

Carro has more than 15 years experience in multifamily property management and operations. She joined BRE in October 2008, as vice president of property operations for its Northern Division, where she was responsible for 28 apartment communities, totaling 8,894 units, in the San Francisco Bay area, Sacramento and Seattle. Prior to joining BRE, Ms. Carro worked at Riverstone Residential Group, where she advanced from leasing associate, to property manager, to district manager to vice president.

Carro served as the 2007 board president of the National Apartment Association’s affiliate in Oregon, and currently holds a board position with the Washington Multifamily Housing Association in Washington. Carro holds a bachelor’s degree from Western Washington University.
 


Emma Davis
Vice President - Washington Supplier Council

A native of Yorkshire, England, Emma Underwood moved to Washington in 1991 and attended Newport High School and the University of Washington. She joined the multi-family housing industry in 2002 when she began working with local apartment owner and businessman Kevin Tisdel at Apartment Insider, a corporate rental finding service, as he prepared to launch SeattleRentals.com. The popular vacancy advertising website grew exponentially, and Emma’s role quickly evolved from assisting with daily operations to overseeing marketing and development to her current role as Partner, which she stepped into in 2000. An avid entrepreneur with a strong work ethic and positive attitude, Emma has helped her company achieve the Cartus Platinum Commitment to Excellence Award multiple years running and is currently working with her team on the launch of ReachWerks, a multi-faceted marketing solutions company offering website design, email newsletters, ad distribution and social networking tools to the multi-family industry.

Trin Cardenas
Board Member

Supervisor- ABODA Furnishings

Committees: 

Trin Cardenas has been with ABODA since June 2003. He oversees marketing and development at ABODA Furnishings, a division of ABODA, which offers short and long-term furniture solutions and household items for sale and for lease. Mr. Cardenas has served on the Events Committee since WMFHA’s inception and was also the first CAS (Certified Apartment Supplier) in the Northwest. During his career, Trin has been known for his positive attitude and possesses a strong dedication to the multi-family industry. A native of Idaho, Mr. Cardenas studied Communications at Boise State University.


Tom Daniels

Regional Vice President, PNW - Riverstone Residential

Committees: 

As Regional Vice President for Riverstone, Tom Daniels oversees Western Washington operations, including nearly 20,000 units across 137 communities. He has been in the multi-family industry for over 16 years, starting as a Property Manager in 1992. Prior to Riverstone Residential, Mr. Daniels was responsible for portfolio operations for both Holland Residential and Trammell Crow Residential Services in Oregon and Washington. As a member of the WMFHA Board of Directors, Mr. Daniels has chaired the Strategic Planning Committee and participated in the Government Affairs Committee, including the Capitol Conference in Washington DC. Before working in Real Estate, Mr. Daniels spent 5 years in the U.S. Air Force. A graduate of Washington State University with a degree in Business Administration, Mr. Daniels has his Washington State Broker’s License.

 


Tina Gordon

Director of Sales and Marketing/Ownership - Perfect Surface of Washington

Committees:

Tina Gordon began with Perfect Surface in 2002, a Washington based vendor to the rental housing industry, specializing in resurfacing of bathtubs, countertops, surrounds, cabinets, fireplaces, elevators, and other hard services, including porcelain, fiberglass, tile, laminate, etc.  Tina joined Perfect Surface of Washington after her multi-family property management career that started in 1985-2002. During that time Tina travelled up through the ranks of on site; successfully managing large multi-family communities, to the corporate level as a regional property manager. Tina’s primary experience for several years was a company and industry trainer.  Tina continues to teach classes within property management, for local associations, and educational events.  Throughout Tina’s 25 years in the rental housing industry she has donated hours to various associations’ boards and committees as her way of giving back to the industry she loves and respects.
 


Marni Johnson

Senior Operations Mangager - Archstone

Committees:

Marni J. Johnson joined Archstone Communities (previously Security Capital Group) in Oregon in 1995, moving to Seattle 5 years ago. She has been an Operations Manager since 2003 and currently oversees 10 multi-family assets totaling 3389 units in the Puget Sound area. With positions of growing responsibility and a high level of experience and success in acquisitions and dispositions, Marni was honored to receive the West Coast Operations Manager of the Year award in 2008 where she was recognized as a manager who demonstrates the "walk a mile" approach to leadership. In 2009, Marni was recognized at the Archstone leadership conference for implementing several changes that resulted in a quick recovery of declining occupancies during the tough Q1. Marni considers her two greatest strengths to be developing teams, specifically managers and pushing them to excel in areas of financial understanding.


Joe Manca

Managing Director Real Estate – Greystar Real Estate Partners

Mr. Manca is a Managing Director of Real Estate with Greystar and is responsible for overseeing the execution of the strategic business plan for the Pacific Northwest.  Prior to joining Greystar, Joe worked with HSC Real Estate as an asset manager in western Washington, and, more recently, for 11 years with Glacier Real Estate Services.  As a founder and president of Glacier, he oversaw management and operations for the firm.  In November, 2010, Joe joined Greystar with the acquisition of Glacier.  Joe received his Bachelors of Science in Finance and Economics from the Albers School of Business at Seattle University and has holds a Washington and Oregon Brokers license. 

Joe Puckett

Joseph D. Puckett recently retired from the active practice of law after more than 35 years in private practice which includes founding the law firm Puckett & Redford PLLC. Mr. Puckett has been working for landlords for over 30 years and his office represents numerous property management companies, developers and owners of residential and commercial properties and advises them on a wide variety of landlord-tenant matters. Widely recognized as an expert in the field of residential tenancies and a frequent speaker to lawyer groups and professional associations on these topics Joe is the chair of the Government Affairs Committee of the Washington Multifamily Housing Association (WMFHA) and very actively involved in legislative activities that affect landlords in the State of Washington. He also serves on the Legislative Affairs Committee and the Political Action Committee of the National Apartment Association.

 


Mike Voorhees

Partner and Regional Vice President - Holland Residential

Committees: 

Mr. Voorhees serves as Partner and Regional Vice President for Holland Residential’s Puget Sound region. Under his tenure, this Region has grown from 233 units in 2003 to 25 properties with over 6,500 units currently under management today. During that time frame Mr. Voorhees supervised the renovation of 3,300 units and a total infusion of +$22 million in capital improvements. Prior to joining Holland Residential, Mike served as an investment manager for Pinnacle and as a District Manager for Trammell Crow for Oregon and Washington. During his career Mike has become known for his leadership and commitment to growing and supporting his on-site associates. Mr. Voorhees received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration at Washington State University and is married and the father of two wonderful children Ella (6) and Aidan (2).


Jim Wiard, CPM

Regional Manager, Multifamily - Tarragon Property Services

Jim Wiard started as regional manager for Tarragon Property Services in June, 2011 and currently oversees Tarragon’s growing multifamily housing portfolio. Tarragon Property Services is a professional real estate investment and property management company that owns and manages multifamily, industrial and retail properties in Washington state and Southern California. Tarragon Property Services formerly conducted business as Investco Management Services for investments owned by Investco Financial Corporation. Jim formerly worked as senior vice president for Guardian Management for 20 years and was responsible for the operational and financial performance of Guardian Real Estate Services’ portfolio of multifamily properties, including oversight of the property management staff; assessing and monitoring property operations and performance; policy development; resident, agency and owner relations; compliance and legal issues; and business development for a portfolio of 140 properties and 12,000 units in six states. Mr. Wiard is a Certified Property Manager (CPM®) and past president of Portland, Oregon’s Metro Multifamily Housing Association. Jim is a graduate of University of Oregon and holds a Bachelors Degree in Business/Marketing.
