Fighting Proposed REET Increase Is a Coalition Effort

A broad coalition of interest groups and associations, including WMFHA, have been working together for the past month. The group has taken a multi-pronged approach to confronting the REET increase legislation under consideration in Olympia. In addition to the multimedia campaign and commercial produced by the Washington Realtors®, the coalition has worked as a group to meet with individual legislators multiple times to answer their questions, point to the problems with the proposal and the harm it will have on the market, especially multi-family housing, during a housing crisis.  The group also stood up a campaign in less than a week to reach out to concerned citizens and patch them through to the individual legislative offices to voice that concern with their elected officials.

This type of one issue coalition, like Partnership for Affordable Housing (PAH), proves the value of having a broad, nimble coalition, that can react quickly and efficiently to do one thing and do that one thing well.
