WMFHA Welcomes Seattle Housing Supply Task Force, Urges Focus on Delivering More Homes
August 19, 2026
(Seattle, Wash.) — The Washington Multifamily Housing Association (WMFHA) today welcomed Mayor Katie Wilson’s executive order establishing a new task force focused on increasing housing supply in Seattle. WMFHA Government Affairs Director Jake Mayson joined Mayor Wilson and other housing leaders at today’s press conference announcing and signing the executive order.
Seattle continues to face significant challenges in producing enough housing to meet demand. WMFHA believes the task force presents an opportunity to identify practical changes that can reduce barriers to new housing, improve the operating environment for existing rental homes, and restore confidence in Seattle as a place to invest in housing.
“We are cautiously optimistic about the creation of this task force and appreciate Mayor Wilson recognizing that Seattle needs to take a serious look at what is standing in the way of housing production,” said Nick Marin, CEO of WMFHA. “We need to focus on operational outcomes that make it possible to build, finance, and operate housing in Seattle. If we want more homes, Seattle must become a city where people are willing to invest in creating and maintaining them.”
Mayson will represent WMFHA on the task force, working alongside City officials and other housing stakeholders to identify solutions that can meaningfully increase housing production and address barriers to investment.
“Our members see firsthand how regulatory costs and the cumulative impact of policy decisions affect whether housing projects move forward,” Marin added. “This is an opportunity to focus on what actually gets homes built and ensure Seattle is competing for rather than discouraging the investment needed to address our housing shortage.”
WMFHA will advocate for the task force to prioritize operational policy changes to increase participation in affordability programs, increase housing production, and create a regulatory environment that supports continued investment in Seattle’s housing supply.
