WMFHA Members Come Together for Rebuilding Together Seattle's Impact Day

On Friday, July 24, more than 60 WMFHA member volunteers traded laptops and meetings for paint brushes, power tools, and work gloves as they came together for one purpose: helping two Seattle homeowners remain safely in the homes they love.

Partnering with Rebuilding Together Seattle, volunteers spent nearly eight hours transforming two homes in Seattle's Beacon Hill neighborhood, proving once again that our industry doesn't just build communities - we strengthen them.

This year's projects were led by James Ohrn (Avenue5 Residential) and Terry Spivey (Thrive Communities), whose leadership helped coordinate an incredible day of service for homeowners Ms. Uno and Mr. & Mrs. Nakamura.

More Than Home Repairs

Throughout the day, volunteers completed dozens of projects that significantly improved the safety, accessibility, and overall livability of both homes. From installing grab bars, replacing appliances, and upgrading plumbing fixtures to painting, repairing decks, refreshing landscaping, trimming trees, and removing old structures, every project was thoughtfully chosen to help the homeowners remain safe, comfortable, and independent.

Seattle Tree Care and Malone's Landscape Services tackled the extensive landscaping and tree work.

Finnmark Property Services pressure washed sidewalks and exterior surfaces at both homes.

HD Supply donated new blinds and many additional project supplies.

Ferguson, along with their manufacturing partners, donated new appliances and numerous additional supplies.

Sherwin-Williams Paint generously donated the paint and supplies used to refresh Ms. Uno's kitchen and bathroom.

Many projects began even before volunteers arrived. Clean Exteriors completed roof, gutter, and siding cleaning earlier in the week, allowing Friday's crews to focus on additional improvements.

It Was About More Than the Work

While the repairs were significant, the relationships built throughout the day were equally meaningful.

Both homeowners were overwhelmed by the generosity shown by everyone involved.

Mr. Nakamura summed up the experience perfectly:

"It was a little awkward at first to have all these strangers in my home, but then we started talking to each of them, found our commonality, and they all became friends. Everyone was so kind and generous."

It's moments like these that remind us why Impact Day matters. The work may last for years, but kindness and human connection often leave the greatest impression.

The Impact Continues

The transformation didn't end when volunteers packed up their tools.

Several generous member companies committed additional projects that will continue improving these homes in the weeks ahead.

• James King Roofing completed roof repairs during Impact Day and will return to install a brand-new roof for Ms. Uno.
• Sage Interiors provided the Nakamura family with brand-new beds the following week.
• Impact Property Solutions is donating the funding to have new exterior doors built for Ms. Uno's home.
