Spokane City Council Overrides Mayor’s Veto

Posted By: Ryan Makinster Advocacy News,

On March 27th, the Spokane City Council overrode Mayor Nadine Woodward’s veto of C36366, paving the way for the ordinances to take affect April 26. However, both bills are dependent on the city putting into place a myriad of programs to enforce the new laws, create and manage the funds and go out to bid for the more controversial “universal/portable background check.”

Due to this, WMFHA staff are working with city staff to understand the timing and requirements of the ordinances as adopted and when the different programs will be put in place. We are asking for staff to put together a briefing and keep us informed of effective dates as they are realized so our members can be in compliance.  Spokane members should be on the look out for action and update alerts, that WMFHA will provide as soon as we receive clarification.
